Covid-19. The questions we all need answered.

Leaving aside any radical conspiracy theories about Covid-19 being an elaborate ruse contrived by some clandestine Illuminati cabal-type society of rich and powerful white males (or Jews) seeking to shift the balance of power and implement a new world order, how imminent is the end of civilization?

A thinking person should be less concerned about the information being dispensed than the manner in which it is being absorbed. You see, studies have shown that the average adult human being is, to use the scientific term… “stupid”. Compound that with social media’s tendency to draw a multitude of interpretations from a grand selection of the world’s least qualified commentators, and we’ve got ourselves a virtual mob watch.

Common sense, which is clearly an oxymoron, is clearly not something into which we can invest a great deal of faith. For example, this how the World Health Organization explains Covid-19:

“While most people with Covid-19 experience only mild illness, it can make some people very ill. More rarely, the disease can be fatal. Older people, and those with pre- existing medical conditions appear to be more vulnerable.

It’s like Mad Libs. Go ahead and re-read the above replacing “Covid-19” with ANY of the following words: Influenza, Bronchitis, Measles, Gonorrhea, Alcohol poisoning, Lactose intolerance, Allergies, Bee stings, etc. Still works, doesn’t it?

Before you read any further you must understand that the point illustrated above is not that we are all victims of a hoax. I have no qualifications that would allow me to extend any such speculation. The subject at hand is not one of symptoms, rather the dispersing of inconsistent and confusing information that gives rise to the wildest imaginings of a largely unsophisticated public. Below you will find a list of (real) questions being asked on Google:

Don’t touch me!

“Can Covid-19 spread through feces?”: Why? Were you contemplating a poop-swapping toilet-soiree with the gang? Under what scenario are you being exposed to someone else’s feces? If so, let’s agree there may be more pressing questions you need to ask Google, or more importantly, yourself.

“Can Corona spread through food?”: I’m not a doctor, but if a stranger sneezes, coughs, or spits on your food, I think we can all agree on 100 good reasons to skip to the next course, n’est-ce pas?

Björk

“Is a headache a symptom of Corona virus?”: Perhaps, but it could also be the result of loud noises, annoying relatives, over-extended pillow talk, the music of Björk, or a bad reaction to your edibles. Let’s not blame Corona for everything.

“Is bleach an effective cleaning agent for the Corona virus?”: Probably. Is this because you happen to find yourself in a situation where bleach is more readily available than household items like… oh, I don’t know… SOAP?

Think no one notices?

Is good personal hygiene necessary for avoiding Covid-19?: One would think, but if you have to ask, you are no doubt in need of a shower. Because while it might not help you avoid the virus, it will certainly benefit anyone who comes into contact with you, even if they are wearing a mask.

“What type of person is most susceptible to Covid?”: I’m going to go right out on a limb and say that if you have a headache after eating food off a plate that a sick person coughed on, you don’t shower regularly, the only cleanser you stock at home is bleach, and you routinely participate in activities involving someone else’s fecal matter, you might just be the type of person that is not only vulnerable, but quite possibly deserving, of contracting this or certainly some form of illness.

Just sayin’. Use your head folks.
